‘Tell Me When It’s Over’ is the debut single from Melbourne-based alt-folk/Americana group, Great Aunt.
Over the strains of a joyous chorus of hand-claps, stomping boots, and dollar-bill-muted percussive guitar, lilt the mournful vocals of singer/songwriter Megan Bird.
The song is a lament: that people congregate in times of great loss or tragedy, but fall short in quieter, more intimate moments. The world, too, has become desensitised and outward-looking – not every tragedy features on our TV screens; not every human moment can be mourned or celebrated en masse, or online. Life is smaller, more private: between you and I.
In the spirit of the song, ‘Tell Me When It’s Over’ was produced, recorded and mixed entirely at home, by Great Aunt.
‘Tell Me When It’s Over’ is available now on Bandcamp, CD Baby, iTunes, Spotify and other digital providers.
